Case Study: Transforming Finance with Atlassian: TechTime's Partnership with a Financial Institute

The problem

In the fast-paced world of finance, staying agile and efficient is paramount. A prominent financial institute realised the need to modernise its project management and collaboration processes to meet the industry's evolving demands. They turned to TechTime, a trusted Atlassian Platinum Partner, for assistance. This case study explores how TechTime helped the financial institute migrate and optimise its Atlassian environment, ensuring a seamless transition to Data Center (DC) while streamlining user management and licensing.

The Challenge: Migration to Data Center

The financial institute faced the challenge of migrating from their existing server versions of Jira and Confluence to the more robust Data Center versions. This transition was critical to meet their growing scalability and performance requirements. Additionally, they needed to decommission their Crowd server and integrate Active Directory (AD) to manage users effectively.

To further complicate matters, they were looking to optimise their licensing costs by identifying and managing inactive users. TechTime stepped in to address these challenges comprehensively.

The Solution: Expertise and Efficiency

TechTime embarked on a six-month project, starting in February and concluding in August, to assist the financial institute in this significant transformation. Their approach was multi-faceted:

  • Migrating to Data Center: TechTime worked closely with the financial institute to upgrade their server versions of Jira and Confluence to versions compatible with Data Center. This involved meticulous planning and execution to ensure a smooth transition. The project also included the decommissioning of the Crowd server and integrating AD in its place.

  • User Cleanup with User Management: To save on licensing costs, TechTime leveraged its User Management app to identify inactive users. By cleaning up its user base, the financial institute could optimise its licensing expenditures while ensuring that active users had seamless access to the Atlassian tools they needed.

  • Licensing and Procurement Support: TechTime assisted the financial institute with data centre licensing, ensuring compliance and cost-efficiency in their licensing model.

  • Assessment and Decision Support: Prior to the project, TechTime performed an assessment of the financial institute's environment. This assessment helped the organisation make an informed decision about moving to the Data Center, providing valuable insights into readiness and feasibility.

Throughout the project, TechTime engaged with various teams within the financial institute, including IT, infrastructure, licensing/procurement, and management. They provided expert guidance and solutions tailored to each team's specific needs, ensuring that the transition was as smooth and efficient as possible.

The Result: A Modernised and Agile Finance Powerhouse

With TechTime's assistance, the financial institute successfully migrated to Atlassian Data Center, enhancing scalability and performance. The optimization of user management and licensing resulted in cost savings, aligning with the institution's financial goals. TechTime's expertise and support allowed the financial institute to continue its mission as a leading financial institution with streamlined and efficient project management and collaboration processes.

Summary

The six-month engagement demonstrated TechTime's commitment to excellence and its ability to deliver comprehensive solutions to complex challenges. This successful partnership with the financial institute underscores the value of leveraging Atlassian products and trusted partners to drive efficiency and innovation in the finance industry.
